- Hypnos lives in a Cave, whose Mansion does not see the Rising or Setting Sun, nor does he see the Moon
- At the entrance were a number of poppies and other hypnotic plants
- His dwelling had no door or gate so that he might not be awakened by the creaking of hinges
- The river, Lethe, in the underworld, is known as the river of forgetfulness and it flows through his cave
- The river is his main and only area of control, along with his mansion
- His powers are that he has the ability to put anyone to sleep at will, whether they're Mortal or Immortal
- Hypnos could put anyone to sleep, Mortal or Immortal - including Zeus, King of the Gods
- He was represented as a gentle young man, usually with wings attached to his temples or shoulders
- He lived in the land of eternal darkness which was known as Erebos, where the sun has never risen
- He has a twin brother known as Thanatos, who was the god of peaceful death
- He was an equivalent to the Roman Somnus
- He was responsible for putting the Greeks to sleep as he pleased
